We learned a lot from games. Runescape taught us how to type, how markets work, statistics, and how to not get scammed. Games are also wholeheartedly human. We used to play on one of the first Minecraft servers, and someone we met spent four hours on Skype walking us through how to build our first computer. League taught us teamwork under pressure. Mafia taught us about our friends, and about ourselves.
Games can influence how we think of and see the world. They let anyone learn through experience.
AI needs that too.
Right now, aligning AI with human values takes PhDs and papers. But games make it visible. Through play we can show AI how we solve problems and the tools we use. If we do it right, AI can become better for us. Working with us, helping us each achieve our own dreams.
Games taught us. Now they can teach AI.
